April Recipes: PORTOBELLO CAPRESE SALAD + BALSAMIC GLAZE

This post has images! If they do not show up for you, please click through! So I've been doing calendars for a few years in a row now, and not once have I made it through without some kind of error or typo. Most of them are not egregious (although last year I did accidentally give November 31 days. Didn't throw December off so it was okay, just embarrassing), but it does set me on edge every time I flip to a new month, knowing that I may be revealing a new stupid thing I did that a couple hundred people will be looking at every day for the next 28-31 days. I did recipe calendars this year, and April is this tasty little dish. However, I must note that I adapted the calendar recipes from a document that I've formatted for an eventual cookbook I'd like to share, and thus have made a small error in the ingredients. I do not have a "sauces" section in my calendar. I am a FOOL. An absolute MAROON! I noticed a couple weeks ago but haven't had a chance to issue a press release until now! So I thought I'd share two recipes today. One being April's recipe and another being the missing balsamic glaze! Bone appateet! It’s especially nice in the late summer when you can get fresh tomatoes and…

ART ROUNDUP: MARCH 2024

This post has images! If they do not show up for you, please click through! I hope you all had a lovely long weekend! Please wish my partner Matt a happy belated birthday, it was on the 31st! He told me that one year when he was a kid his birthday fell on Easter and nobody came to his birthday party and that is one of the saddest things I've ever heard. On that note, let's look at some of the art I made this month! This is all just personal stuff and does not include any commissions, of which there were a fair few. Is this why my back always hurts? Nah, it's way easier to blame it on the kid. She can't read anyway. I've been trying to paint at least one or two acrylic studies a week, but I'll admit I've been pretty busy in the latter half of the month and have been slacking a bit on that front. It's okay, it's all marinating. I don't know what kind of painter I want to be yet, and all my ideas, influences, experiences--they're all composting while I rest or work on other things. Also I have apparently been going through another David Tennant/Doctor Who... thing... I guess, so who has the time when there's fanart to do? (Classic Alex move, really.) Aiming to do at least a couple #PleinAirpril studies, even if I just end up taking my ipad out because real paint feels like too much…

i put my children on the cover of CRIME Magazine, where they belong!!

I was obscenely tired this weekend and I tried to take a nap but then had to get up mid-relax because I suddenly had this idea and couldn't sleep until it was done and then the kiddo woke up and I had to do chores and have fun visiting my parents and cooking dinner and now it's Monday and I'm still super tired and I still haven't napped and I made myself an iced coffee with almost a quarter cup of instant coffee granules to no avail because caffeine doesn't wake me up and yet I still make the futile effort because at least it clears a bit of the fog. Anyway these are the best things I've drawn all month and so they get their own post. That's all. Have a nice week! I love to share my art and comics, and I'm extremely blessed to be able to do it full-time as a career, in part due to readers like you!
