PCF + New Mural!

HEY PALS! We’re comin up to about that time again, and by “that time” I do of course mean MARKET SZN is once again upon us!! I’m still finalizing my fall/winter lineup but I do know two things for sure:

  1. I will be doing significantly fewer events than I did last year, because wouldn’t you know it, 5 shows in a month is simply too much for me.
  2. First on the docket is PRAIRIE COMICS FESTIVAL yeehawwwww

You will find me in Alloway Hall at the Manitoba Museum on September 5th and 6th, 10am-6pm on Saturday and 12pm-5pm on Sunday. Many of my excellent and talented friends will be there. I’m speaking on a panel later on Sunday afternoon, and I will also have a new comic out! I’ve it had up on Patreon for a little while as a PDF, but will actually have printed copies at my table, courtesy of my friends at Inservice Comics, a micropress here in the city run by my pal Nicholas Friesen.

Just a wee collection of all the comics I drew throughout pregnancy, and then some.

I just got my hands on my copies last week, and they turned out SO NICE! Up The Duff is 30+ pages of cartoons and comic strips I drew when I was pregnant back in 2021 and I have been promised that they are very good and funny. Of course, I’ll have a whole pile of prints and stickers and a handful of zines at my table as well, as usual! PCF is one of my favourite events of the year and I am very excited for it. I hope to see you there!!

New Mural Ahoy!

In the way of new art, I’m VERY excited to share that earlier this month I painted a new mural for the Assiniboine Park Zoo!! You’ll find it over at Aunt Sally’s Farm, next to the goats. They wanted something interactive (like a selfie wall) for both adults and children that matched the colours of the “rainbow park” as my 4yo calls it. I think I did a pretty fun job!!! If you’re interested, I took a bunch of progress photos as I went and I plan to do a little writeup at some point on here.

I admit, as someone who has very fond memories of going to places like the zoo and interacting with the installations there, like sitting inside the little eggshells, there is a part of me that is really excited to have a little piece of permanent public art up for kids! If I’m lucky, there will be some kids who grow up liking the peacock painting at the zoo, and that is a bit of an honour, I think.

If you take any photos with it, I would LOVE to see them!

Comics comics comics!

Also, in case you missed it, I launched a new ongoing webcomic a few weeks ago!

Pip + Gunko is a series of short episodes about two sweet little dumbass bunnies who quickly become best friends through the power of bickering and threats of affection.

It currently updates one page a week on Wednesdays (tomorrow!), but each episode goes up in full on Patreon the day the first page drops online. Also, with enough readers/subscribers/feedback, I’d love to be able to change that to twice weekly at some point in the future!

That’s all for now. I hope to see you this weekend!

Cheers,
Alex
